Within my practice of doing portraits I blend the mediums of sculpture and paint, and I use photography as a way of binding them up into a two-dimensional work. Unlike other photographic reproductions of sculpture where the sculpture is the work, and the photograph is a way of conveying that work, I use sculpture as a means to an end of producing a photograph, and in my practice the photograph is the work. I use photography, as I do the sculpture and the painting of the sculpture, as freely as possible. I have a general idea of what I want to produce but I also allow for a certain element of chance by working loosely with the materials and resisting the urge to over-manipulate them. By doing so, I seek to create images that are more immediate and organic in nature. It is my desire to make images which are free from the mediums that bore them.
