I was born in Kiev, Ukraine. After receiving my degree from the Kiev Art and Design College, I worked as a graphic designer. In 1989, my family and I immigrated to the United States. For many years, my artwork has reflected my innermost personal experiences. Inspired by nature, literature, art history, and my dreams, I experiment with colors, textures and movement to bring my own personal world to life on canvas. Recently, I experienced a shift in creative direction and have been exploring new themes and techniques. My drawings in white pen on black canvas attempt to process my reaction to the violence and political tension gripping the country of my birth. This work expresses my social and personal concerns through the symbolism of fantastic. My paintings and drawings are populated by fanciful characters orbiting one another in dreamscapes. The recurring references include figures from literature, sensuous human forms, pomegranates, and birds. Perhaps my artistic iconography embodies my individual experience in universal terms. The line traverses the canvas and flows in a journey from the representational to the abstract. I trace a path from my eye to my emotions and reflect my response to the world onto canvas. In my quest for self-expression, I experiment with mediums and techniques, forms and themes. It is a journey that I have been on for my entire life. The journey continues.
