I paint abstractly to bring to the viewer a visual experience much like one might receive while listening to classical, jazz or any music without lyrics. I work in an automatic fashion, allowing the painting to take shape starting only with an idea of color choice and space. My ideas are of a visceral nature; what I paint comes to me more in a sense of palette and emotion rather than that of image. I prefer to work on more than one painting at a time. I work in spurts of automatic painting, then time of reflection and observation of my efforts, followed by more painting. I enjoy the process of painting immensely, then responding and refining the product. More recently, figure has been creeping into my paintings due to my meditation on the fast pace of modern society: our minds so inundated with the aura of instant. Although this meditation may not be directly related to include figure, I know that wherever my thoughts are, there too are my paintings.
