GIZEM UZKUR

ISTANBUL Turkey
My works has always featured some sense of darkness in them, I’m a classic painter apart from the fact of putting untraditional objects around my canvases. I painted away my pain and used my paintings as a way of expression my inner psyche. The darkness in my works has its origins and is feeding from the mental-physical illness called Anorexia Nervosa. It is known to be the disease of the 21st century. However, the underlying reasons which lie beneath this illness are know to be related to sexual or childhood trauma. Moreover, in my works there is a general pattern; the figures seem to express some incomplete angst with their exaggerated hands and portraits that is to symbolize a half-lived youth.
