Ben Lenovitz

I find that the immediacy of a first brush stroke is similar to a first thought; sincere, confident and intuitive. Second thoughts are more doubtful and uncertain. My objective is to paint “in a first thought.” This is the place where risk-taking and diving into the unknown happens. Beyond that, I know I am painting for others and less for myself. The rarity, but ideal, of painting in the first thought results in a flow of consciousness that is without preconception and embraces the process not the product. This feeling between the canvas and my hand is a feeling worth chasing again and again.
