• Why Coffee? • I have been a graphic designer by trade in corporate world since 1998. I’ve felt like I died a little inside each day I didn’t paint. Finally in 2012-2013, I decided it was time to fulfill this emptiness. It was around this time that I move back to New York City to find myself as an artist and individual. Thirteen years sans painting has took a toll on me. I was lost. I had to re-familiarize myself with all kinds of mediums, style and subject matter. It was so frustrating and heart wrenching. What I envisioned throughout the years wasn’t executing the way I wanted. I tried it all: watercolor, aqua monolith, gouache, pastel, oil sticks, oil and acrylic on canvas, paper, etc. Nothing worked for me. Gouache and watercolor wasn’t glossy enough. Acrylic dried too fast. Oil paint dried too slow and I was allergic to the turpentine. All listed cost so much since I work large scale. I had to figure out a medium that was just as effective color wise, water base and cost effective. I was desperate! I explored ink, it was too thin. I searched my apartment for materials. I found a coffee that I left behind for a couple of weeks behind my computer monitor. Much of the water evaporated and left the coffee in this thick texture, like molasses. Then I realized that I should try to paint with it. It was a great serendipity! I love this medium so much. It dries fast like the water base mediums, has the texture and finish of an acrylic/oil paint. And should I change my mind about an entire piece, I can completely erase the entire thing with a wet sponge. The great thing about my formula and the art I create is that it uses 4 out of your 5 senses: sight, touch, smell and taste plus it is sustainable and environmentally friendly. • Order Out of Chaos Series • In fulfilling my dream as an artist, it meant leaving the life I’ve lived for 12 years. A plethora of chaos arose but a big transformation occurred. When you leave the known, the unknown is a bit frighting. But in the midst of darkness and chaos I found my light and myself because all new life is created in darkness (e.g. baby in womb + caterpillar in cocoon + seed underground). I wanted to share the knowledge I’ve gained from this journey without words but something that all will understand in the soul level. As Manly P. Hall stated, “Symbolism is the language of the Mysteries. By symbols men have ever sought to communicate to each other those thoughts which transcend the limitations of language... When the human race learns to read the language of symbolism, a great veil will fall from the eyes of men. They shall then know truth and, more than that, they shall realize that from the beginning truth has been in the world unrecognized, save by a small but gradually increasing number appointed by the Lords of the Dawn as ministers to the needs of human creatures struggling to regain their consciousness of divinity.” Thank you and I hope that my art ignites the flame within you.
