ALLA PONYATOVSKAYA "Созерцая… Contemplating...» From April 22 to 29, 2014 the gallery Brusov Art Space gallery presented a personal exhibition of the artist Alla Ponyatovskaya. The artist showed the series of artworks "Созерцая.. Contemplating …” from the period of 2005 -2014, created in Russia and Canada. Not accidentally exhibition was held at Bright Week of Orthodox Easter. Much of the art work of the series is devoted to religious portrait. For more than 20 years Alla Ponyatovskaya makes attempts to express through painting joy of contemplating the beauty and tenderness of Russian icons. Meditating on glorious iconic images of the Virgin Mary, Saints, Archangels and Seraphim, the artist transmits her personal experience of the evangelical events. Alla’s favorite colors are red and gold, red - the color of warmth, love, a symbol of the Resurrection. Gold – radiance of Heavenly Kingdom, symbol of sanctity. " I love these faces and stories when I write them ... I wish each of my art work will emit a bit of light and love”… - Alla Ponyatovskaya About Me I like to make artworks close by themes and style to Orthodox icon painting. This is where my creative energy dips out fascination and passion. How to make an ancient tradition alive? Could icon attract my peers or young people? How to deal with canon and artistic freedom to interpret evangelic stories? A lot of questions arise... In terms of artistic influence they are Andrei Rublev, Rustam Khamdamov, Sergei Paradjanov and Andrei Tarkovsky. I wish my paintings would always convey peaceful, calm and meditative mood. I started to exhibit my artwork in 2001. I took part in group exhibitions - an annual Christmas Exhibition of Icons at Trinity College of University of Toronto in 2001 and 2003. In 2004 I held my solo exhibition in “Natural Vitality Centre”, Toronto. Together with creative work I managed an upscale gallery of contemporary Canadian fine arts "Koyman Galleries" in Toronto. In 2005 I organized the Exhibition of Contemporary Christian Art at Mother of God Monastery in Orangeville and participated in this exhibition as an artist. My paintings are in private collections in Russia, Canada and the United States. I have just received an invitation from “Alexandrovkaya Sloboda” Museum/Kremlin (http://kreml-alexandrov.ru) to have a personal exhibition in September-October 2015.
